We decided for one last (maybe) meal at Wasabi Restaurant since it maybe my last chance of abusing the staff ID. I love Japanese food yet most of the"japanese" restaurants are just not my taste. Till now, only Kura at 1Utama and Wasabi from Mandarin Oriental are both nearest to my taste buds expectation (probably spoiled due to travelling too often to Japan at once).
new entrance
Back to topic, the price at Wasabi is not friendly, at least it won't make me a regular customer. However, with the 50% staff discount ... it had then become very very very attractive. So, we had decided to have our lunch there at one Saturday, at the week that Wasabi had just re-open after renovation.
green tea
The interior of Wasabi now become brighter, and more cozy than before renovated. Menu, remains the same. Waiters were friendly and had good knowledge of food for recommendation. We were served with green tea while flipping over the menu.
green tea & cold plate?
As usual, we were served with 2 glasses of starter? Or what is it called? It was ermm ... carrot and celery, cut to thin long stick, cold and serve with ermm ... I believe it is secret recipe sauce. Not too sure what is it made from, but it does go well with the cold carrot and celery. How great is this sauce? We had request for another glass of this.
salmon sashimi
I fall in love with this Salmon sashimi at my first try. The Salmon slices were thick, and definitely fresh. Freshness is very important in Japanese cuisine especially sashimi. I had stopped looking for sashimi for a while since I came back from Japan, after the try out at Tsukiji market (spoiled!). I can't forget the freshness I ever taste in my life (of course, can't forget the price too!). I started to try out some Japanese restaurant recently and notice most of them did bring in good quality of seafood nowaday.
The remaining of our orders were served at once after we finished the sashimi. I ordered for a Wasabi Sampler and my mate ordered for a garlic fried rice and a Dobin Mushi.
lunch time
Wasabi Sampler for sure is suitable for someone like me, that want to try every signatures. It is an all in one, each in a smaller portion, inclusive of Kumi No.1 (thumb up!), Ahi Poke (still thumb up!), mini tofu (ermm ... tofu lor), Spinach Goma Sauce (delicious! guess it is the same sauce for the cold starter), Shrimp Tempura (eh, I allergy to shrimp, should taste fine I guess), Rainbow roll sushi (great!).
OK, one by one. Kumi No. 1 is definitely a number one signature dish in Wasabi. It is a mixture of crabmeat and avocado, wrapped with fish and bake with ermmm .. secret sauce? Very authentic taste, thanks to Madam Kumi, the creator of Kumi No 1 for the supreme dish. The Ahi Poke is another recommended dish. It is actually an evolution of Tuna sashimi, marinated in Hawaiian style. No doubt, the tuna is very fresh as well.
I finished almost half of the spinach and tofu, together with garlic fried rice. Yes, just like eating mix rice. The rainbow sushi is colorful, and ermm ... yeah delicious. It is consider as one of the signature in Wasabi, if you ask me, personally I prefer soft shell crab sushi.
Dobin Mushi
Dobin Mushi was the highlight, we wanted a soup and don't feel like order a miso. Thus, we left with one option, Dobin Mushi. It sound like Chawan Mushi. The description do not help much, "steam clear seafood soup served in earthern pot"? It looks like serving in teapot when it arrived. The surprise was when we opened the teapot cover, we found some mushrooms for us. We cleared of the mushrooms, closed the teapot and poured the soup in cup. It was sweet, not sugar sweet, it was the sweet from seafood.
Last meal in Wasabi, 100% satisfactory. Don't think we will be back in any near future, KL is too far unless there is a solid excuse for us to be there.
