Menya Musashi, One Utama

The experience in Santouka had sparked my desire toward ramen. Knowing that Isetan in OneUtama did bring in two ramen chains from Japan, one of Tokyo (Menya Musashi) another Hokkaido (Gantetsu). We do plan to visit OneUtama shopping mall during the weekend, it was a good chance to try out either of them. The shops located at 2F in Isetan. We chose Menya Musashi based on majority online review.

Menya Musashi

First impression, paying system is awkward. There is only one entrance, we were required to place our order at the cashier and paid the bill right after ordering (imitating vending system?) Cashier handed us our bill after paying, the master chef brought us to our seat, waitress then served us with two glasses of cold water. Nothing suspicious so far, until we noticed that we waited for nearly 20 minutes for food. There wasn't much crowd, open kitchen chefs don't seems like preparing anything. After checking with waiter, they confirmed that the kitchen order did not pass to kitchen! It was still on the cashier's table.

The waiter apologized to us, even the masterchef does come over to say sorry for missing our order. It was lucky that I wasn't suffer in hunger (my temper is bad when hungry). My mate was whispering to me that if the food is not that great, this will be one and the last.

Kuro Ramen

Shio Ramen

Under normal circumstances, our food arrived within 10 minutes. The egg in Kuro was a little over cooked where the one in Shio was perfect. My mate started his meal while I was still busy shooting my ramen. He had then turned to me ... ... one and the last ... ...

The type of cooking for cha-xiu is definitely a NO NO for us. Reason? No fatty layer! Moreover the meats are coarse. We ordered for two different soup based, Kuro and Shio. However, there is not much different in taste. Kuro (fried shallot and garlic oil)  probably a little sweeter than Shio (which is salt based). Menya Mushashi using thinner noodle. We felt that the noodle is not that springy and its too soft for us.

Oh well, to be frank, if its not because of we just had Santouka a week ago, we will satisfy with this bowl of noodle (although it may end up to be one and the last as well). I think, its just a preference. Menya Musashi is just not our bowl of noodle.

p/s: I shall arrange a day to try out Gantetsu once, even the crowd is lesser than Menya Musashi
p/s: There is Puran B in Isetan, I thought it was a Japanese kind of cafe. Its not! Indeed, its Plan B.
