03/11 ~ 04/11
Frankly, I can't recall what exactly I had in CHR. We have our lunch and breakfast settled at The Dinning Room and our dinner at Gonbei. We had our first meal, a lunch, due to the room was not ready for check-in. Front desk brought us to The Dinning Room, handed us to the waiter over there. The restaurant was pretty quiet when we were there, crowds pour in only during tea time starts at 3pm till 6pm. If my memory didn't fail me, the hi-tea set for 2 pax is at RM68?
We stared at the menu for awhile, taking our own sweet time. Please bare with my bad memory, I can't recall the name of food that we ordered. However, this thick chuck of salmon is a starter ordered by my mate. The highlight dish of the entire meal.
Smoked salmon if not mistaken. Fresh and chewy. Allows me to stress again, thick chucks. It is one of the best salmon dish I had this year.
I made a decision at French Onion Soup. It served in a bowl covered with a very thick cheesy bread.
Bread is too thick and cheesy. I will prefer if they serve me a toast instead. Soup filled with onions. It became a very filling dish after soaking in the bread.
My mate choose a bento set as his main. I tried a few pieces of the black pepper chicken, juicy and tender.
I simply pointed at the menu without reading the description. It turned out a beef steak. It tastes mediocre overall. Mashed potato is flavorful though, I felt it taste much more better than beef, personally.
We ended our meal with sweet. I forced my mate to grab a rice pudding, which the main ingredient is glutinous rice. It is a warm sweet one but its too filling for us. We did not finish this, left about a quarter in the bowl.
Me, at the other hand happily ordered for a crumble, apple crumble? This is so good.
We went back to room after the hearty meal, lazying in the room until we decided to come out for a late dinner at Gonbei. It is a Japanese restaurant just opposite our room.
I was looking forward to dine in this restaurant as it serves the same name and supposed to be a franchise for Gonbei at Starhill. As of now, I not sure if both are the same, as Gonbei at CHR serves only steamboat.
An average steamboat that can find anywhere. Since we wanted to have a light dinner, so this serve us well. But still, average.
Maybe a free flow of big red strawberries help to gain some points. Fresh, sweet, and the most important, unlimited.
Despite a so so dinner, we were greeted with a wonderful breakfast. I loves the breakfast setting in CHR. Free flow of juices. We get one each, orange and watermelon, bottomless. Not to forget a coffee and tea as well.
Waiter put down a basket of bread. Fresh and warm.
We were entitle to choose a main each. My mate went for a scramble, I got myself a pancake. Ignore the standard boring scramble. My pancake is awesome.
We packed and ready to go off after the breakfast, check out time is at 11am. We missed the chance for CHR famous hi-tea. I believe that we will find a day for sure. I enjoyed breakfast the most. Ambiance plays the main factor, table setting is an important role as well. Lunch is much better than dinner. Don't put a high hope at the so call Japanese restaurant. It has no different with a steamboat restaurant other than free flow strawberries. I will take a chance try out Smoke House if I ever visit Cameron Highland again, but I will definitely miss the breakfast in CHR.
